Eye Witness Detective Agency Spotlighted in Times of India for Surging Pre-Marital Checks

Surging Pre-Marital Checks

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the dynamics of relationships have undergone a significant transformation. From virtual courtships on dating apps to the rise of social media connections, the era of technology has ushered in a new era of love. However, with the digital revolution comes a growing sense of caution, and people are turning to professionals to ensure that their happily-ever-after doesn’t take an unexpected turn.

Kolkata, renowned for its rich cultural heritage, has witnessed an astonishing surge in the demand for pre-matrimonial background checks. Eye Witness Detective Agency, a stalwart in the city’s private investigation scene for over three decades, has reported a three-to-four-fold increase in pre-marital enquiries compared to the pre-pandemic era.

Gopal Banerjee, the brains behind Eye Witness and an ex-Army official with years of experience, sheds light on the evolving nature of the detective business. “Demand for our services has tripled since 2019,” says Banerjee, emphasizing the shift from post-marriage investigations to pre-marital cautionary measures. Eye Witness Detective Agency has been at the forefront, adapting to the changing needs of its clients.

Banerjee attributes this seismic surge to the changing landscape of relationships, fueled by the prevalence of dating apps and extensive social media advertising. In the past, the agency would handle a modest 8-10 cases during peak seasons, but the scenario has undergone a dramatic transformation. Now, they find themselves handling 150 to 200 cases, reflecting an 80% increase in clientele.

“Approximately 80% of our clients were aggrieved parties post-marriage who regretted not getting a background check done earlier. Over time, more people are deciding to be careful before making a commitment,” explains Banerjee. The pandemic may have dealt a blow to many businesses in Kolkata, but those who remained resilient and operational are now experiencing a resurgence.

Imran Ahmed, the bureau chief of Analyst Detective Agency, shares insights into the normalization of private investigation services. Having been in the industry for 14 years, Ahmed notes that private investigation has become increasingly normalized, especially with the proliferation of social media. The digital realm makes it easy to maintain connections with people who might present a digital persona that differs from reality.

“I have seen my business nearly double since 2017. Many members of the team found alternative employment during the pandemic. Now, many have come back, and the field is growing for new recruits,” Ahmed adds, highlighting the resurgence and growth within the private investigation sector.

The rising trend of pre-marital checks underscores a growing societal awareness of the importance of due diligence in relationships. As people embark on their journey to find a life partner, the role of detective agencies like Eye Witness becomes crucial in providing a safety net against potential pitfalls.
